Diamond clarity describes the natural internal and external characteristics of a diamond.

Internal characteristics are called inclusions, while surface characteristics are called blemishes. Many are difficult or impossible to see without magnification, especially in well-chosen diamonds.

For many buyers, the best clarity choice is an eye-clean diamond: a stone that looks clear in normal viewing conditions. Certification helps compare clarity grades, but the visible appearance of the individual diamond matters too.
